I was hoping the Skyscale would offer much more freedom of movement at the cost of speed, but from what I understand, it will end up being a greatly restricted Griffon-Springer hybrid, more useful for scaling tall objects than soaring freely through an open sky. I think GW2 could stand to benefit from having a slow but true flying mount.
Honestly, the griffon is a fairly situational mount. It's probably the most fun to use out of all the mounts in the game, but it's not as much of a QoL increase as, say, the Skyscale. So in that case it really is a tossup, and if he's already that invested in Bolt, he might find the long-term payoff more satisfying than continuing to delay it
Only for combat. Outside of combat, mount stealth lasts much longer and is more versatile. Mount stealth has a long cooldown, whereas gliding stealth is based on your endurance and can be used more frequently. They are different, and you are most successful when combining both in a variety of contexts. Simply untrue.
When you get too low, pull up and flap to get back up. You can also keep flying horizontally much, much longer on water. There's a stream vod somewhere that explains the mechanics in depth, could try and dig it up for you. It's a hell of a mount, seems like something from a singleplayer game. Infinite learning curve.

The only new ability you’d lose by doing that is the ability to mount in combat, which is unlikely to be make-or-break (with gliding booster and stealth, it’s pretty easy to get out of combat long enough to mount, particularly griffon or skyscale). You’d still get the aerial flame attack, which is likely to be needed in certain new combat u2Oz.
